Ian & Selena Saxton

All my babies start out as a large clump of clay,
specifically, 'Monster Clay'.
From there, I hand-sculpt every fine detail : tiny fingernails, facial hair, detailed wrinkles and even slightly protruding veins.
I pour my heart into capturing a lifelike expression whether
the baby is asleep or awake.
This sculpting process takes me months to complete, and every moment is devoted to realism and emotional depth.
Once I am finally satisfied with the full sculpt, I hand it over to Ian, who begins the intricate process of mold-making.
This is time consuming, and a highly detailed task.
He must get it right the first time as the clay is easily damaged.
His precision and patience are vital.
When the molds are complete and ready for pouring,
Ian carefully measures the silicone and blends it into a natural undertone base colour. The silicone is thoroughly mixed, then degassed to remove any air bubbles, ensuring a flawless finish.
We use ecoflex 20 platinum silicone, with added slacker
for extra softness for our S' Real feel - Once poured and cured,
it is removed from the mold , the baby begins to take shape,
ready for the next stage of artistry and finishing.

a true labour of
love

Because silicone is a solid material, we want the baby's
body to bend and move like a real baby. After some trial and error,
we came up with a solution by adding a soft inner core in the baby's tummy. this not only allows for gentle movement and flexibility, but also reduces the overall weight, making the baby feel perfectly proportioned - just like a real baby.
Then begins the painting process - the true transformation.
This is where the baby comes to life, with every detail carefully added to replicate the delicate look of baby skin. Painting silicone is difficult, but after some experimentation, I've developed my own custom silicone paints and a technique that ensures the paint adheres properly and doesn't peel off.
When I am satisfied with my painting, I seal it with a matte finish.
This removes the sticky feel and shinny appearance, leaving the
skin soft to touch - Our S' Real baby feel.
The final step to complete the baby is micro-rooting the hair.
We use the finest quality mohair. A special time consuming
technique is used for this process - one hair at a time is micro-rooted.
For other baby's I delicately paint the hair by hand. This requires a steady and a careful eye for detail, as every stroke must mimic the softness and flow of real baby's hair, also a slow process.
Then tiny barely there eyebrows and eyelashes are added.
- the final touch of realism.
... AND A BABY IS BORN.
